Coding in Python
In our Python programming course, your child will step into the exciting world of coding. Designed to make learning approachable and fun, this course introduces key concepts in programming while encouraging creativity and problem-solving.
Students will learn:
- How computers work, managing files, using different kinds of software.
- Inputs and outputs, and different types of data.
- Introducing logic with if-else statements and how computers can “think” to make decisions.
- Simplifying repetitive tasks and creating fun patterns using loops.
- Storing and reusing data with variables and lists.
- Breaking problems into smaller steps and learning how to organise their code with reusable functions.
- Applying their Python knowledge to fun technologies such as mini game consoles, interactive stories, or maybe even virtual reality!
Python is a beginner-friendly language widely used in industries like gaming, web development, and even space exploration. It’s an ideal first step into STEM careers.
We focus on hands-on learning in a supportive environment. Kids learn by doing, experimenting, and having fun while developing skills for their future.
No prior experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to learn!

Term 2 2025 Coding in Python – Porirua
Vivita Toa Creative Hub – 4 Lydney Place North, Porirua
Tuesdays: 6th May – 24th June (8 weeks)
Time: 3:30pm – 5:00pm. This class is aimed at students in Years 4 – 8, but also open to Year 9 & above. Students are expected to attend the full class (unless by special arrangements with the Matamoe Hub team).
Learn Programming Fundamentals:
Explore key coding concepts such as:
- Variables: Store and use information in your game.
- Logic and Decision-Making: Control how the game reacts to player inputs.
- Loops: Simplify repetitive actions in your code.
- Functions: Organise and reuse code efficiently.
Hands-On Coding Activities:
- Use Python to code an interactive device, such as a PicoBoy game console or a Micro:bit controller
