Meet the Team
John Clegg – Director of Matamoe
John Clegg is a leader in digital education and the founder of Summer of Tech, a programme that has helped thousands of students launch their careers in tech since 2006. He also serves on the advisory board of Victoria University’s Engineering School.
As the Director of Matamoe Community Hub, John is committed to making STEM education accessible an engaging for all. His work focuses on empowering rangatahi with real-world skills in robotics, AI, and game development, ensuring young people can navigate the digital future. With a strong background in tech, leadership, and mentorship, John is working on bringing Matamoe’s vision across the Wellington region.
Brianna Maloney – Programme Co-ordinator
Brianna Maloney is the Programme Coordinator at Matamoe and one of our original tutors. She has been instrumental in shaping the programme and ensuring that tech learning is engaging for everyone. Brianna focuses on making STEM accessible by integrating creativity, problem-solving, and real-world applications into learning. She is a strong advocate for integrating creativity and problem-solving into STEM education, ensuring that students not only gain technical skills but also develop confidence and curiosity in their learning journey.
Meet the Tutors
Adam
Adam is a recent computer science graduate pursuing a passion for teaching. He is studying to become a high-school teacher at Victoria University, and in his time away from classes he helps out tutoring with Matamoe. Adam has done some work in tech—mostly around 3D modelling and game development—and loves to teach and show students how fun it is to make programs and code.
Adelle
Adelle is finishing up a computer science degree with a focus on game development at Victoria University. At Matamoe, she teaches game development and coding with Python during the term, as well as some robots during holiday programmes. Outside of work and study she likes playing and modding video games with the help/hindrance of her pet birds.
Adya
Adya is currently in the third year of her Bachelor of IT at WelTec. Over the course of her degree, she has developed interest in data analysis and coding projects among other things. She is currently leading classes at Wainuiomata for web development and helps with game dev, Python coding and other holiday programmes. She enjoys mentoring young minds and helping them expand their skill set.</>
Alice
Alice is a second-year Bachelor of Science student at Victoria University of Wellington, majoring in Computer Science and AI. Digital technology interests her because of the wide range of areas to learn about, from game development to web design to machine learning and more. At Matamoe she currently teaches robotics and enjoys helping the students. In her free time she is passionate about badminton and helps coach the Wellington U13 junior team.
Jacqui
Jacqui enjoys game development and animation. She tutors the Game Dev Extension class at Scots College and the Game Dev & Coding course at Wainuiomata High School.
Maya
Maya is a third-year Computer Science and Information Systems student at Victoria University of Wellington. She has had a deep interest in technology from an early age, and through Matamoe she gets to expand her knowledge in coding, VR, game consoles and more. She enjoys sharing her knowledge, having taught a Python course and other code/game-development holiday programmes.
She has also supported various courses in VR, 3D printing, Scratch and motion capture, helping students navigate challenges while learning from their fresh perspectives. She loves guiding students and inspiring them—especially young women—by helping to offer meaningful opportunities to explore their passion for tech and build their confidence.
Sharanya
Sharanya is a third-year software engineering student at Victoria University of Wellington. She is interested in all areas of tech, but right now she has an interest in learning more about back-end development. At Matamoe, she has taught many different courses but has the most experience in leading the coding classes and robotics classes using the Micro:bits and Edison robots.
She loves having the opportunity to teach and challenge the minds of the next generation. Seeing their progress in tech makes her so proud to help on the mission to make learning tech more accessible.
Simran
Simran is in her third year at Victoria University of Wellington, studying a double major in Accounting and Computer Science. She has been a part of Matamoe since September 2023, and is glad to be involved in such a great initiative that empowers students and helps expose them to the world of tech.
Through Matamoe, she has had the chance to teach robotics, Python, and game development in the Strathmore classes. It has been incredibly rewarding to see the kids so engaged and curious about learning new skills.
She is especially passionate about combining tech and problem-solving in creative ways. She loves exploring areas like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, computer science, and is fascinated by how technology can be used to make systems more efficient and accessible. She is always keen to keep learning and to inspire the next generation to get excited about all the possibilities tech can offer.
Steven
Steven is a third-year computer science student at Victoria University, focusing on coding and artificial intelligence. Outside of uni he loves snowboarding and hiking and is always keen to get outdoors whenever he can. At Matamoe he teaches coding and robotics, and you’ll often find him helping out in other areas as well.
