Our Mission
At Matamoe, we help your rangatahi gain the skills they need to succeed in a world full of technology. Our free programmes give students the chance to explore digital tools, get creative, and discover new opportunities. We focus on building confidence and giving them the skills to shape their future through fun, hands-on learning.
Get stuck into tech!
Matamoe brings STEM learning to the community—free of charge for students—thanks to the generous support of our sponsors.

Why Matamoe is awesome
“I found out how to code a robot and someday I want to build a robot for my Mom.” – Benedict, avid robotics enthusiast (Year 4)
We make learning tech fun and easy for your students. Instead of jumping straight into coding, we bring tech to what they already enjoy—sports, art, and music. We focus on sparking their curiosity and letting them explore tech in a way that feels exciting, not intimidating.
We believe in making tech something our rangatahi want to try, not something they have to do. Our projects are hands-on and creative, helping them see how technology can be a tool for self-expression and fun.
Here’s examples of projects that our students have worked on:
- Animation & Motion Capture: Students record their free-throw shot and turn it into 3D animation for a game. It’s sports meets tech, in a way they’ll love.
- 3D Design & Customisation: Design and print their own 3D figures, learning about design and engineering while getting creative.
- VR and Games Design: Choose 3D characters and animations to put their own spin to Rock Paper Scissors in VR.
- Lego & Robotics: Use Lego and robotics to build fun projects like candy dispensers, teaching engineering through play.
- AI and Machine Learning: Show students how machine learning and AI works, and how to use it to solve problems.
“Matamoe Hub sparked my curiosity for 3D printing and Blender, and turned it into something real. I’ve learned so much, built cool things, and grown more confident every step of the way. It’s a place where imagination meets technology” – Luna, 3D printing designer (Year 8)

Help us bring Matamoe to over 2000 students in 2026!
We’re on a mission to bring Matamoe to more rangatahi across the Wellington region. Matamoe stays free because our community chips in. Your help via donations, sponsorship, or volunteering helps us bring our engaging tech to the region. We need to cover the practical stuff — from 3D-printer filament, electronic/robot parts to batteries, licenses, and repairs — so rangatahi can dive into hands-on tech with zero cost barriers. Whether you give once, set up a regular kōha, loan gear, or share your skills, you’ll help us reach more Māori, Pasifika, and wahine learners across Wellington and accelerate their digital journeys.
