Robotics - Technical Skills
Thursdays: 30th April – 2nd July (10 weeks)
Prepare to compete in Robocup Junior! Explore specialised robot designs and engineering challenges for the competition, along with coding techniques used for line tracking and object detection. Form teams and document your progress to enter the competition at the end of the term.
The Robocup Junior regional competition is running Saturday 27th June in Wellington. Our aim is for most students attending the class to compete, but you’re welcome to attend even if you’re unsure at this stage whether you’ll make the competition date.
Note for Scots College students: we will be running additional lunchtime sessions for students from Scots College to prepare for the competition. This means preferential treatment will be given to students outside of Scots College for our after school programme. Further details will be sent through the school very soon, but feel free to enquire about this by emailing [email protected]. For Scots College students registering after school, the process will look slightly different. Fill out the form as usual and we’ll send you a separate email with further details.
If you’re more interested in designing your own robots than entering the competition, take a look at our Creative Design robotics class.
Time: 3:30pm – 5:00pm
Location: Scots College, Strathmore Park
Skill level: Open to any students in Year 4 – Year 10, with ability to work in a team and focus on specific skills for the competition

Matamoe Workshop
Tuesdays: 28th April – 30th June (10 weeks)
Work on your own independent tech projects alongside other experienced students! Matamoe Workshop is less structured than our other classes, tutors are there to provide support and guidance with whatever you’re interested in. Explore a range of subjects such as:
- Coding
- Game development
- Robotics
- 3D modelling
- Virtual reality
- Animation
We do expect students to be reasonably skilled in some areas of tech, and to be able to work fairly independently, so students may not be accepted into the class if Matamoe staff feel they are not yet suited for it.
Time: 3:30pm – 5:30pm (students may arrive 30 mins late or leave 30 mins early to accommodate travel or other commitments)
